Version One Staff Sleep Rough on Streets of Manchester
Five staff from document management software company, Version One, slept rough on the streets of Manchester on the night of Friday 2 October 2009 in aid of Action for Children’s youth homelessness projects.
General Manager Julian Buck, Marketing Manager Catherine Murphy, Sales Manager Richard Abraham, PR Manager Liz Ebbrell and Account Manager Dean McGlone, were five of over ninety IT professionals that took part in the Manchester sleep out as part of Action for Children’s Byte Night. Byte Night attracts over 500 IT professionals from across the country with sleep outs taking place in five different cities on the night of 2 October.
The team of five from Version One, calling themselves the Version One Buckaneers, has raised over £2,500 for Action for Children thanks to the generous support of Version One staff, re-sellers and suppliers as well as family and friends. The monies raised will help Action for Children tackle the root causes of youth homelessness and get thousands of children and young people off the streets and into secure accommodation with education and training opportunities.
- Julian Buck, Version One
Julian Buck, General Manager of Version One, says, “Sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester was a sobering experience. We realised first hand how tough it is to have to bed down for the night on freezing concrete and to be so exposed to the elements. Fortunately for us, we only had to sleep rough for one night unlike those young people who are forced to sleep on the streets of Britain night after night.”
Buck adds, “We’re delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause and are very grateful to all those who have sponsored us in this challenge.”
